With an office in Jefferson City, The Missouri Agribusiness Association has been the eyes, ears and voice of agribusiness since 1969. MO-AG has more than 450 dues-paying members and is the premier agribusiness trade association in the state. MO-AG represents the industry to legislators and regulators, offers peace of mind to its members through quality insurance, improves the workforce with education and training and keeps members updated on industry news.
MO-AG is a trade association governed by a 14-member board of directors who work with 10 committees. The committee members have a strong say in the organization's activities and provide important leadership and direction for both MO-AG and the agribusiness industry. MO-AG holds three meetings throughout the year to enable its board of directors, its committees and its members to be up-to-date on trends and activities in the industry.
Agribusiness is changing.
In the last century, agribusiness...and agriculture...have seen remarkable and amazing changes. Scientific breakthroughs have lead to sky-rocketing crop yields. Missouri ag products are now shipped to markets worldwide. New farming techniques are creating a cleaner environment. It doesn't take a leap of imagination to see that these changes are only picking up speed.
Contrary to popular opinion, agriculture is more than just farming. Agribusiness is an all-encompassing term referring to the wide array of businesses: manufacturers, retailers, dealers, service providers who either supply farmers with the items they need to be successful or take a raw farm product and change it to something more useable through processing. MO-AG's job is to represent these businesses and keep them strong.
The impact of agribusiness on Missouri's economy is tremendous. Annually, agribusiness generates more than $17.5 billion dollars for Missouri's economy and employs 400,000 Missourians -- 15 percent of the workforce and the state's largest employer. Agribusiness continues to contribute to the wealth of our state, accounting for 17 percent of the personal income earned every year by hardworking Missourians. Thanks to the efficiency of agribusiness, the U.S. food supply is the highest quality and most abundant in the world at the lowest cost in history, and our exports continue to make inroads into eradicating world hunger.
MO-AG is your legislative voice.
Our legislative mission is to bring the agribusiness point of view to the legislative level. MO-AG promotes the passage of favorable legislation in Missouri's capitol. Under the direction of Jim Russell, MO-AG's lobbyist, legislative decisions impacting agribusiness are monitored carefully. With eight years in the General Assembly, and 25 more representing MO agribusiness, Jim Russell is a veteran of the law-making process.
